Assistant Finance Officer

Since 1977, Medical Care Development International (MCDI), the international division of US-based not-for profit Medicare Care Development (MCD) uses practical, evidence‐based and high‐impact approaches to strengthen health systems in developing countries and to improve the health of vulnerable populations. MCDI has implemented public health programs in over 40 countries in collaboration with donors, national governments, the private sector, health agencies, communities and local stakeholders to improve health and save lives in the following areas: water, sanitation and hygiene; malaria control; maternal, neonatal and child health; tuberculosis; HIV/AIDS; and other communicable diseases.

We are actively seeking a full-time Assistant Finance Officer based in the US, to provide support to the International Division by assisting the Senior Finance Officer with certain financial aspects of the project management of international programs. This position is primarily responsible for ensuring that, with assistance from the Junior Finance Officer, tracking sheets are updated with complete and accurate information, and that accurate invoices are prepared for donor submission within established timelines. This position is further responsible for overseeing and reviewing field bank reconciliations as well as conducting tracking sheet to BlackBaud GL reconciliations.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

1. Bachelor’s or associate’s degree in accounting or finance, or 5-6 years’ related accounting, bookkeeping or finance experience
2. Hands-on experience in budgeting and financial monitoring; financial management
3. Excellent computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook), including expertise in Excel as a financial management tool
4. Detail-oriented with accurate data entry skills
5. Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
6. Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team
7. Excellent time management and organizational skills
8. Ability to meet deadlines is a must
9. Willingness to work evenings occasionally
10. Willingness to travel domestically and overseas occasionally

1. Familiarity with U.S. Government grant and contracts regulations (USAID), OMB, African Development Bank, and World Bank regulations is an advantage
2. International experience or experience with international development work a plus
3. Familiarity with Financial Edge/Blackbaud software
4. Ability to speak French, Spanish, or Portuguese also a plus
