Business Development Assistant, Silver Spring, MD

Medical Care Development International (MCDI) is the International Division of Medical Care Development, Inc. (MCD), a non-profit organization incorporated in the State of Maine. Since 1977, MCDI has provided technical assistance to over 40 countries and institutions in Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, Asia, and the Middle East. MCDI implements a variety of health programs in areas that include HIV/AIDS, maternal and child health, malaria, water, sanitation and hygiene, performance based financing, tuberculosis in Africa with funding from USAID, the World Bank, the Global Fund for AIDS, TB and Malaria, the Global Sanitation Fund, UNICEF, non-USG public donors and commercial sector donors.

Overview of the Position
MCDI is looking for a Business Development Assistant to join the Business Development Unit of MCDI. The Business Development Assistant will support business development operations and proposal development, while gaining firsthand knowledge of global health, international development, funding trends, business development including new program design, ultimately contributing to the Unit’s effort to win new businesses.
This is an entry level position with the exciting opportunity for advancement and career growth.

1. Actively participate as a member of proposal teams by supporting Proposal Managers in the development of high-quality proposals, including serving in Proposal Coordinator role for assigned proposals;
2. Monitor and track donor platforms and resources for new program opportunities; work with program teams to collect information on potential new programming efforts;
3. Research and analyze donor trends and priorities;
4. Conduct research in relevant topics on global health and development that inform proposals’ technical strategy;
5. Assist in the development of capability statements, past performance documents, and other proposal documentation;
6. Assist with recruitment for proposals, including scheduling and participating in interviews;
7. Assist with drafting of proposal attachments/annexes such as charts, tables, graphics and other annexes;
8. Assist with preparing proposal documents for submission through copy-editing, formatting, and ensuring consistency and compliance with donor’s requirements; coordinate production and submission of proposals;
9. Maintain JIRA-based trackers for key proposal deadlines, workflow and opportunity pipelines;
10. Participate in training and disseminating knowledge across the organization;
11. Perform administrative duties to support the operation of the Unit, to include coordinating the engagement of consultants, overseeing logistics of business development related travels;
12. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience
1. Bachelor’s degree and 0-2 years of related work experience in an office environment; prior experience in an international NGO setting is a plus.
2. Demonstrated accuracy; strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and timeliness;
3. Excellent diplomacy, cross-cultural, interpersonal, and communication skills;
4. Energetic; able to work well independently but also thrive within a team;
5. Excellent written skills, including ability to effectively summarize key points and address a diversity of professional subjects;
6. Familiarity with and passion for global health issues is a plus.
7. Advanced computer skills (particularly Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and proficiency in use of Internet search tools such as Google and other web-based tools;
8. French or Spanish reading and writing proficiency is a plus.
